Introduction
The LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) has nurtured generations of medical doctors through the provision of premium quality undergraduate medical education, primarily via the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. As a major medical training ground for the region with a global presence, HKUMed stays attuned to society’s medical service needs and addresses them with innovative solutions, such as the MBBS curriculum reform implemented in response to the changing social and professional landscapes, which has given rise to the most updated MBBS 140 Curriculum.
The 4-year Graduate Entry track in MBBS, namely the MBBS (Graduate Entry), is to open up pathways for degree holders with a keen interest and passion to join the medical workforce to receive medical training and obtain qualifications for practice in Hong Kong. The track aims to attract not only local graduates but also those who had completed their first degrees outside Hong Kong but are eager to return to HK and contribute to the medical community and tackle the challenges of today’s public healthcare services.
After the completion of the Pre-Clinical Curriculum, students have the option to undergo intensive research training by conducting research projects supervised by top researchers or undertake the Master of Research in Medicine (MRes[Med]) programme.
Programme
The 4-year MBBS (Graduate Entry) upholds the same standards and requirements of the accredited 6-year MBBS curriculum. It also shares the same goals and learning outcomes as the accredited MBBS programme, with the same ultimate objectives of producing doctors with demonstrated competence in the understanding and delivery of effective, humane and ethical medical care, and who are committed to life-long learning and are ready to proceed to specialist training.

(English) A 4-year Graduate Entry Track in MBBS
(English) Year 1
(English) You will acquire health sciences knowledge and basic skills in self-directed learning by studying actual patient cases. You will also have your first exposure to patients through community visits, where you will learn about their care in their social and economic contexts.
The Pre-Clinical Curriculum covers the following themes:
- Health Sciences Foundation
To strengthen your foundation knowledge in basic and health sciences. - Professionalism and Clinical Skills
To gain an overview of the processes of diseases and an introduction to the therapeutic strategies for modulating disease processes. - Precision Medicine
To explore the exciting innovations in treating disease at the frontiers of genetics and genomics, artificial intelligence and robotics. - Medical Humanities, Ethics and Law
To learn about the ethical and legal implications of modern medical care, medical humanities and professionalism. - Medicine and Society
To learn about caring for the patient as an individual, and as a member of a family and a community.

- System-based Blocks
(English) Year 2-4
(English) After completing all system-based blocks, you will enter the real-life world of clinical practice and get full exposure to how doctors work on a day-to-day basis. You work alongside doctors and nurses as they treat patients while acquiring the necessary hands-on skills and an in-depth understanding of clinical medicine before you join the ranks as a future health professional.
You will go through three phases in the clinical education component:
- Clinical Foundation Block
- Clinical Clerkships
- MBBS Electives

(English) Optional year
(English) The optional year may be taken after completing all system-based blocks. The year provides intensive and structured research training in a medical area of interest, and aims to enable students to develop life-long clinical and/or laboratory research skills and the capability to engage in research effectively.

(English) Entry Requirements
The 4-year MBBS (Graduate Entry) track targets degree holders with demonstrated academic excellence and aspirations to join the medical profession. Applicants should fulfil the University’s entry Requirements in English and science subjects including Chemistry or Biology, and have degree qualifications with at least a second-class honours (upper division) or the equivalent from a reputable university in Hong Kong or overseas, in relevant discipline.
Application
Application deadline is June 20, 2025. Interested applicants with degree qualifications may apply to the MBBS (Graduate Entry) track via the Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme.
Please select “6456 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Year 1 Entry” on the application system. Applicants who are in the final year of undergraduate / have completed an undergraduate degree will be automatically considered for admission to the MBBS (Graduate Entry) track.

Existing Applicants
All applicants with degree qualifications applying to the 6-year MBBS programme will automatically be considered for the 4-year MBBS (Graduate Entry).
